The team behind Tidal Sails brings together deep technical expertise and visionary leadership to advance renewable energy from slow-moving water. With decades of experience in engineering, marine technology, and innovation, they develop and commercialize a patented sail-based technology that generates clean, affordable electricity from tidal and river currents.

Led by experts in science, engineering, and business, the team focuses on advancing tidal power technology, building strategic partnerships, and scaling sustainable, commercially viable energy solutions.

Are Børgesen

CEO / Founder / Chairman


Are Børgesen is the Founder, Chairman, CEO, and visionary inventor behind the patented technology of Tidal Sails is a former pilot turned entrepreneur and innovator.

He served as a Commander at Widerøe Airline for 23 years and has a diverse background that includes the Royal Norwegian Army Officer School and the North American Institute of Aviation, where he graduated as a commercial pilot.

In addition, he has pursued studies in philosophy and psychology at the University of Tromsø and University College of Haugesund, Norway. Are holds several patents and has shared his expertise at tidal energy conferences around the world for over a decade.

Geir Standahl

COO


Geir Standahl is a former high-ranking officer with nearly 40 years of experience in the Armed Forces, including over 25 years in national and international leadership roles.

He completed more than 6 years of military education at the Norwegian Defense College and attended NATO’s Defense College. He also served 11 years at NATO’s political headquarters and other NATO and EU institutions.

He has advised Norwegian Ambassadors to NATO and the EU and has extensive experience in project management, planning, and crisis management.

K. R. Prajwal

Chief BDM

K R Prajwal holds a MTech degree in Power Electronics from VTU, India and MSc in Marine Renewable Energy from University of Plymouth, UK. During his studies in UK, he tested an OWC wave energy converter for dynamic performance analysis as part of WETFEET in collaboration with IST, Portugal.

He has gained experience by dealing with clients during his stint at ABB, India and also has done several freelancing projects for different wave energy companies worldwide. His role is to expand the company footprint in Asia.

Diana Oprescu

Head of Marketing

Diana Oprescu is a marketing professional specialized in online marketing, brand strategy, and brand development across international markets. Passionate about technology and highly technical, she combines strategic thinking, creativity, and data-driven insights to drive growth and elevate brand awareness.

Diana holds a Master’s degree in Brand Management and Corporate Communication and a Mini MBA in Marketing and Communication. She also brings expertise in social media, content creation, digitalization, and brand presentation to increase visibility and strengthen market presence.

Rune Karlsen

Norway Manager

Rune Karlsen is bringing decades of leadership and operational experience from his career in the Norwegian Army. He has led large teams, managed complex operations, and overseen training and strategic planning, ensuring high performance and operational excellence.

His background includes commanding the Akershus Kommandantskap and serving in senior staff and international roles, giving him a strong foundation in leadership, logistics, and team development. Rune’s experience and dedication make him a key figure in advancing Tidal Sails’ activities in Norway.

Mrugaksh Trivedi

Project Engineer

Mrugaksh Trivedi is a Mechatronics Engineer with a dual master’s in Energy Engineering and Innovation from KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya under the EIT InnoEnergy program. He developed Python-based optimization models for hybrid offshore Wave-Wind-Solar systems to maximize energy capture.

He built technical expertise at NoviOcean and as a Technology Consultant at Infosys, leading carbon tracking applications and scalable architectures. He also directed strategic projects, including a decarbonization roadmap for Oskarshamn Harbor integrating hydrogen infrastructure and renewable energy systems.
